The Laurel & Hardy Films: Our Wife (1931)

SCENARIO: Its a special day for Oliver. This is the day he will marry his female look-alike, Dulcy. Sadly, her Father disapproves and with Stan 'helping' they arrange for an elopement. After the usual hour or two of scrapes, the love-birds along with Stan immerge to find a local Minister willing to perform the ceremony. But in a true Laurel and Hardy twist of fate, the Minister is severely vision impaired and, to the horror of all present, marries Oliver and Stan to each other. The film was released on May 16, 1931.

**Its Oliver's wedding day and he practices his 'I do's' with deep feeling along with the accompaniment of a hip rendition of the Wedding March.**

**. . and introducing Dulcy, the bride-to-be, the perfect Oliver Hardy female counterpart (Jean 'Babe' London).**

**A horrified Father-in-law-to-be (James Finlayson) hopes that rotating Oliver's picture several times each way will improve his appearance.**

**Stan helps prepare the prenuptial Dinner.**

**Stan means well but stepping on Olivers suspenders which neatly rips his pants in two slows progress a bit.**

**Oliver suggests an elopement to defy his future Father-in-laws objections.**

**. . and Stan contributes his cheery unsolicited 'good-bye' from the extension in the livingroom.**

**Dulcy coos at the idea. . 'how romantic'. A series of gushy good-byes are exchanged between her and her betrothed.**

Stan rendezvous with Oliver at Dulcy's to help coordinate the elopement but not immediately spotting them does the sensible thing and rings the doorbell asking for Oliver 'yeah. .the one thats going to elope with Dulcy'.

**Unfortunately Stan hails Olivers attention just as a piece of Dulcy's luggage descends.**

**The get-away car, an Austin-Healy, the compact sport sedan of its day but a tad bit too compact for our friends.**

**Stan thinks this may be a good a time as any to unload his pocket full of rice and pummels Oliver and Dulcy with an old shoe.**

Forgotten why he rang the bell in the first place, Stan attempts to relay information between Oliver and the awakened Minister's wife (Blanche Payson).Tired of the long string of irritating non sequiturs and circular questioning at this hour of the morning, she terminates the conversation with a quick right hand to the nose.

**Enter the Minister the Honorable William Gladding played by the cross-eyed Ben Turpin.**

**. . . and kisses the 'Bride'.**

**After a quick few marriage vows, the duo is finally united in marriage as the Honorable Reverend congratulates the 'Groom'.**
